AiKea Labor Day Celebration

AiKea Youth Celebration

We held an AiKea Youth Celebration to honor the youth who participated in our Organizing Beyond Barriers internship and AiKea Youth Academy. They spent their summer building a working people’s movement and organizing their communities. Mahalo to the students from Pearl City, Waipahu, and Farrington High and Aikea at UH who came to celebrate!

AiKea UH Pokemon Student Housing action

Our Aikea at UH Student Housing Action was a hit! We passed out leaflets to students moving into the dorms at UH Manoa, informing them about the terrible student housing conditions and our plan to change the housing contract. We also caught plenty of Pokemon. View more photos on our Facebook page.

Celebrating HB1850’s veto & our next steps

We had a productive and fun AiKea meeting, discussing our next steps in our affordable housing campaign and our youth organizing program. We also celebrated the veto of HB1850, Airbnb’s bad bill. Mahalo to everyone who testified against HB1850 and contacted the Governor. This is everyone’s victory!

Floatopia for Fairness

Students from Farrington High, Waipahu High, Pearl City High, and UH Manoa floated in front of the Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel to call on Aston and Hotel Renew to treat workers fairly. UHM Ethnic Studies class on Filming Social Change

UH Manoa students! ES 496: Filming Social Change is being offered this Fall. 3 credits, Wednesdays 1:30p – 4:00p. This course is once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from Emmy Award-winning writer and director, Ty Sanga, how to use digital media to make short videos with compelling visuals and narrative structures to promote social issues.
