There is a lot of development being proposed for Hawaii right now.  The state and the City & County have some very good land use laws, but our elected officials often give developers more or less what they ask for, including variances from those laws, rather than using the laws creatively.  Industry people have stated that there are too many barriers to development in Hawaii, that the process takes too long and that there should be ways to streamline development so it can go faster.  Environmental groups are concerned about the impacts of each development being proposed, but some more than others.
